Così Fan Tutte

May 2023

This was OPRA Cymru's first tour visiting the country's main theatres following the pandemic period. The cast was a great mix of both experienced singers and those at the start of their careers, including Leah Marian Jones, Erin Gwyn Rossington, Erin Fflur, Rhys Jenkins, Huw Ynyr and John Ieuan Jones.

Cyfrinach y Brenin

Autumn 2022

This was the company's second original commission and the first opera of its kind; An opera for children and families, in Welsh. The music was composed by Mared Emlyn and the libretto by Patrick Young and Iwan Teifion Davies. The audiences loved it and the show was proof that we need more operas in Welsh!

Don Giovanni

Autumn 2019

OPRA Cymru strongly believes in promoting the talents of young Welsh singers and instrumentalists, and a special tour of the opera Don Giovanni by Mozart was created with a group of promising artists. The tour visited both theatres as well as village halls and rural centres to ensure that opera is an art-form to be enjoyed by all.

Autumn 2019

To commemorate 200 years since Beethoven composed his only opera, an original production was staged in theaters across Wales.

Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd

Autumn 2017

This was the first original opera commissioned by OPRA Cymru. The music was composed by the genius Gareth Glyn and the libretto by Mererid Hopwood. The opera is based on the famous novel by Islwyn Fwock Elis of the same name. The show was a huge success and the production won an award for 'Best Production in Welsh' at the Theatr Cymru Awards 2018. From the very beginning Patrick Young, founder and Artistic Director of OPRA Cymru was determined to create original works in Welsh, and he managed to make a lifelong dream come true with this opera.
